Safe Harbour Emergency Shelter
   
  • 23 girls were cared for at the Safe Harbour Emergency Shelter
  • 368 days of care (unduplicated) were provided
  • 83% of parents of minors were successfully contacted within 72 hours of the girl’s admission to the Shelter
  • 66% of family of girls placed for more than 72 hours participated in our services
  • 100% of girls reported feeling safe while at the Shelter
  • 95% of girls did not miss more than one day of school due to placement
  • All girls were kept in their home school
  • 100% of girls reported being satisfied with the services of the program
  • 95% of stays resulted in a planned discharge
  • Family reunification rate was 77%
  • 100% of girls with a planned discharge were successfully linked to community resources following discharge
  • 75% of girls remained in their discharge placement at three-month follow-up
 
Transitional Living Program (TLP)
 
  • 41 girls were served in the TLP
  • 8,284 days of care (unduplicated) were provided by the TLP
  • 100% of girls reported feeling safe while in the program
  • 100% of girls increased their independent living skills as measued by the Ansell-Casey instrument
  • 90% of girls leaving the program were a planned discharge
  • 93% of girls completed high school or equivalency at discharge
  • 82% of girls had been employed continuously for 6 months prior to discharge
  • 98% of girls did not become pregnant (compare to the 48% national rate for homeless girls)
  • 94% of girls served have successfully completed the TLP
  • 90% of TLP graduates have continued education beyond high school
  • 100% of girls with a planned discharge were successfully linked to community resources following discharge
 
Independent Living Program (ILP)
   
  • 13 girls were served by the Independent Living Program (ILP)
  • 6 girls graduated to independence
  • 2,319 days of care (unduplicated) were provided by the ILP
  • 100% of girls maintained full-time employment
  • 100% of parenting young women successfully cared for their children
  • 100% of girls with planned discharge were linked to aftercare services and community resources
  • 100% of graduating y outh maintained their self-sufficient status at three-month follow-up
  • 45 youth (95%) have completed the program since inception
  • 89% of girls served by the ILP have continued education after high school

We are very proud of the fact that the majority of our clients continue their education after high school. The significance of this result is illustrated by a recent study showing that even one year of post-secondary education cuts the poverty rate in half for single women in Illinois.
